Vote Yes to ban animal circuses‘Is it time to stop circuses from using wild animals in their act?’ asks Scottish newspaper The Daily Record.

This is your chance to express your view on the issue of banning the use of wild animals in circuses. The timing to do so has never been more apt as currently both Holyrood and Westminster Parliaments are considering a ban.

Earlier this month, Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead announced that Scotland will ‘look carefully’ at changing the law to ban circuses from using wild animals after it emerged that five big cats are spending the winter in cages at a farm in Aberdeenshire.

Mr Lochhead also said that ministers had carried out a consultation on banning the use of wild animals in circuses on ethical grounds earlier this year and said “We’re paying very close attention to this and we will move as quickly as we can.”‘ He told MSPs: “The analysis of over 2,000 responses is currently being completed and, of course, we will carefully consider all the views expressed and pay close attention to events elsewhere in the UK.”

A winning ‘yes’ vote for this poll would therefore highlight to both the Scottish and English Parliaments that the public are in support of a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.
