Captive Orca (Photo: Rojer)July 4th, the World Day for Captive Dolphins, is an opportunity for us to remember the plight of the thousands of whales, dolphins and porpoises held in captivity across the world. Travelling vast distances in the wild; in captivity, whales and dolphins suffer from restricted space and a limited social environment, often forced to perform circus-style acts to entertain the public.
ENDCAP is opposed to the keeping of cetaceans in captivity and works with like-minded animal protection organisations and cetacean scientists to raise awareness about the plight of whales and dolphins in captivity and challenge the global captive cetacean industry. Seeking a united, coordinative approach to ending the captivity of cetaceans in the EU, ENDCAP and member organisation, the Born Free Foundation, have hosted an event in Brussels to establish a coalition of organisations.
Concerned about the exploitation of cetaceans in captivity? Sign the pledge, which is in collaboration with responsible tour operators. This campaign seeks to generate awareness about the plight of cetaceans in captivity. It calls on tour operators and members of the public not to sell or buy tickets to dolphinaria.
